Nell's - Seattle

Had the pleasure of dining at Nell's (near Greenlake, formerly Saleh al Lago) for the first time last night.

Nice atmosphere: not stuffy, nice leather seats on the banquettes. I would be comfortable here with either my parents or a date.

Good service: able to answer questions, willing to make recommendations, timely, not hovering.

The food:
*White corn soup with avocado mousse and cumin oil
*Pea and onion risotto with parmesan sauce and black truffle
*Tuna sashimi with shaved asparagus in horseradish vinaigrette
*Foie gras with roasted apricots and some sort of wine sauce

Overall extremely pleasing, great flavors. Very nice soup, nearly perfect tuna. Two small quibbles: slightly too al dente, too white risotto, and the roasted apricots could have used just a hint of extra sweetness.

Had two good wines by the glass: a nonvintage sparkling that was appley, medium-bodied, and highly drinkable, and a tokaji, which was amazing with the foie gras. Apricots and honey and sunshine spun into a completely non-cloying nectar.

Fairly priced at $68.
