My wife and I hit Hari Cameron's new spot in Rehoboth last week, and were thrilled. We are longtime fans of Nage where he used to be the Exec Chef. His new spot downtown is better by orders of magnitude.
The focus is on small plates consisting of local ingredients. We opted for the 6 course chefs tasting menus. As it was fairly early on a Tuesday we had a lot of time with the chef and spent a delirious couple hours fawning after course after course of truly remarkable offerings. I can't do each course justice at the moment, but highlights were a burnt eggplant soup with coffee oil, and soft shelled crab, a filet with new potatos, and foie, garnished with slivers of raw almond, and a venison tartar.
In addition to the 6 courses there was an amuse consisting of a very perfect shrimp, a palate cleanser beverage featuring aloe masurated in honey, and a pre-dessert offering of pana cotta with blueberry sorbet, with fresh berries.
We've been to Brian Voltaggios Volt in Frederick several times, and both agree that Hari is operating along the same lines, of local, sustainable, regionally themed dishes, but doing it in a much more interesting and exciting way. He's also just a hell of a great guy, and everyone on his staff are clearly as excited about what they're doing as he is.
