Barb Zapzalka, the proprietor of Pumphouse Creamery in South Minneapolis, has created a chocolate ice cream made with Rogue Chocolatier's single-bean chocolate. It's available in a little sampler cup for 50 cents, or by the pint for $9.00.
I realize that that's a pretty steep price for a pint of ice cream, but believe me: you have never tasted chocolate ice cream quite like this. If you haven't had a Rogue chocolate bar, you've been missing out. And if you've never had Kopplin's hot chocolate made from Rogue chocolate, well, you get the picture. This chocolate is mighty good, and all the stuff local merchants have come up with to make from it have also been awfully good.
The ice cream starts off with a sort of malted milk flavor, then melts into all kinds of chocolate complexity. It's pretty amazing. I recommend getting over to Pumphouse soon, as I imagine this was a small batch and may not last long.
