Ok, so I was just randomly peddling around the Interwebs and happened on this piece of rumor mongering (BTW, I'm not sure on attribution conventions for Chowhound, please forgive transgressions):
"I've received no fewer than four emails and two phone calls in the last two weeks asking what's up with the restaurant spaces on both 33rd and 36th and East Lake. Rumors abound about what Thom Pham has planned for the area: another Azia? Another Thanh Do? So I cornered Thom last night and asked him to spill it.
As you can hopefully deduce from the title of this blog post, he's opening up another Anemoni Sushi & Oyster Bar at the 36th and East Lake location. It will have a full bar, not just beer/wine/sake, so I'm assuming the famous Pham happy hour will apply.
The 33rd and East Lake space is still up in the air, but Thom would really love to open a Thanh Do there. Anemoni is a great choice for the area because the price points are just right. Thanh Do would be equally good for the same reason; in fact, I'd be more inclined to drive to Thanh Do for some of that yummy Vietnamese and Chinese food and head back to Azia for the superb cocktails."
From this blog, titled Girl Friday: http://girlfriday.typepad.com/my_weblog/
So the rumors about Tom Pham opening up in the former Embers/Lalibella/Molly Quinn's space have been rumbling for a long time, but last I saw, it was sitting empty with no further work being done and a for sale sign on it. And 36th and Lake? What's up with that? There's a small space on that block next to the woodworking shop that looks cool, but has no visible kitchen...other than that, I know of no open restaurant space on 36th and Lake, unless Dingley's closing Merlin's Rest, just when it's getting hot...
Maybe Pham's got the itch after Temple closed down?
Anybody have any idea of what's going on out there?
