Previously I dissented about their cupcakes, but I've had two delights at DeLessio this week.
Their mocha ranks up there with Madeleine and Tartine. They use real chocolate (why is this so rare? why must nearly every cafe use syrup or powder?) that is sweet enough to complement the espresso. I find their hot chocolate too sweet, but it's perfect for a mocha.
Their morning buns are now my Bay Area favorite. They are overloaded with butter, sugar, and cinnamon -- more so than at either Tartine or at La Farine. I prefer the cinnamon in DeLessio's to the orange sugar at Tartine. Best of all, the DeLessio morning buns are more well-done, so the outsides are partly caramelized while the innards (at least in the morning) are almost creamy from the still-melted butter. I can see how they could be too sweet for some people, but if you're in the more-sugar-is-always-better camp then these will delight.
