Just had a great visit to Montreal and thought I'd note some of our favorite places (and thanks to the hounds who had suggested some of these!). We stuck with casual places and just did a lot of walking around and a visit to La Ronde amusement park (where we tried poutine - never did get another chance to try another version, but I can understand the appeal).
Loved the Jean Talon market - so many fruits and veggies and I just wanted to buy them all - we stuck with bluets savage (tiny wild blueberries) and fresh raspberries for breakfast.
Also near that market is a store called Le Marche des saveurs du Quebec - tons of foods items from all over Quebec - jams, honeys, jellies, wines, cheese, teas, and so much more. I was in heaven - and you can imagine how heavy my carry on bag got!
Had lunch at Le Petit Alep - a small bar/cafe next to Restaurant Alep - that was great. Vegetarian appetizer platter, fatoush salad and chicken tauok sandwich was more than we could eat. Very friendly atmosphere - I wanted to hang out there all day. Couldn't convince hubby that we needed to compare chicken tauok sandwiches all over town though.
Had dinner at McKibbins Irish Pub just off St Catherine's one nite - great fries, really good chicken and leek pie and the nite we were there was Irish music jam night - so free music as well.
Such a walkable beautiful city (and even the Metro is easy to use)!
