Mills Tavern, Providence - Mixed Experience

Well, upon the chowhounds' unanimous recommendation, we finally made it to Mills Tavern on Saturday night. Overall, the food was wonderful, and the service quite attentive. However, there were a number of inconsistencies with the menu that were somewhat disappointing.

Most of the meat entrees were served without the accompanying sides that were described in the menu, and the people who ordered such dishes were encouraged to order sides off of the "Mills Sides" menu. One guest at our table received a pork chop order with nothing on the plate except for the pork!

I ordered the crispy salmon (very fresh with a perfect crispy outside), that was supposed to come with lentils and a tomato/citrus jam. Rather than the jam, it was topped with some blueberry concoction (I do not eat blueberries and was forced to switch plates with my husband). Another dish was supposed to come with a grilled artichoke, but was instead topped with grilled asparagus. The server did not describe any of these changes to us when we placed our orders.

Despite these inconsistencies, the rest of the meal was quite good. The heirloom tomato salad was out of this world, and my husband loved the open faced rabbit ravioli.

We will certainly give Mills Tavern another try, and we are hoping that these inconsistencies were due to the fact that we dined on the cusp of changes between the summer and autumn menus. However, I thought it might be helpful to share our experience in order to balance out the otherwise rave/glowing reviews of a restaurant that appeared to "do no wrong." ;)
