My partner and I were trying to have Yamada-ya for lunch yesterday but were foiled by the long line. I remembered Metro Cafe was nearby, and we decided to walk up to the place.
My first (and only) trip was ~2 yrs ago for dinner. I went w/ a Serbian acquaintance, who seemed to enjoy the food there and found some of the dishes to be quite familiar.
Had the chevapchichi sandwich w/ ajvar (after placing my order, the waiter asked, "What part of Serbia are you from?" Har.), while my partner had the grilled veggie sandwich. Both were really good, although I thought that the grilled sandwich sandwich was the superior of the two (the vegetable slices weren't too thick, they were nicely grilled, and it was wonderfully tangy). The french fries weren't greasy and were warm (rather than ridiculously hot). My partner's fruit bowl was surprisingly good (the strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and pineapple were all very sweet).
Service was fast and polite. The place (at least near the windows) had a lovely, airy feel. The crowd was quite an interesting mix of folks (in a good way). And it was all very affordable. Wish the place were w/i walking distance of me! ::sigh::
