so in the past few weeks sukhadia, the chaat place at rockwell & devon has been offering a few new items - dosai and parathas. the paratha's offered are of three varieties - mouli (daikon), gobi (cauliflower), and aloo (potato)
I've tried all except the aloo parantha. Dosai were pretty bad, no crispness whatsoever, though the accompanying coconut chutney and sambhar were pretty nice.
my reaction to the paranthas is a little more complex. I love mouli parantha's, and when visiting my grandmother in delhi eat them in gigantic amounts. i miss them, and sukhadia's were not in the same league, the mouli having been long cooked with none of the freshness or chilis of my grnadmother's. But I still liked them and will get them again. In fact the gobi parantha are closer to the ideal version, but I like mouli parantha enough that even sukhadia's far from ideal version was better to me than the gobi.
a random devon note: Manchow, the "bombay chinese" place across from north water market has closed and has been replaces by a new chaat spot - Amrit ganga, which I haven't tried yet.
