So the missus and I dropped by Jose Gutierrez' new place, Encore, last Friday before the theatre, and I'll say I was duly impressed.

Mushroom ravioli appetizer was very good, although they used diced supermarket softball tomatoes as a garnish, which I kinda dislike, but it is December, so vine-ripe tomatoes aren't exactly in season. Braised short ribs and strip steak were both excellent--the last couple of bites of steak (served au poivre--with whole green peppercorns in sauce) were the best I've put in my mouth in memory. Bread pudding was a little eggy for my tastes, but my wife loved it. Without drinks, the total tab was around $50.

No wait for a table at 6pm on a Friday evening without a reservation--I'd probably make one if I were going later. Really an excellent value. Definitely going again. Probably skipping the $9 martinis in favor of something off the wine list.
