medina.....new in chelsea

had dinner the other night at the new moroccan restaurant - medina on tenth av bewteen 28th/29thstreet. it was so new that we were actually the only people there for the most part, the garden wasn't quite finished as yet and the owners were still trying to find the right pita bread so we had a baguette - but......the ambience is medina like (as in the curves and arches and lighting of the country itself), and the food is kind of great.....an assortment of salads and mezze that were all distinctive in taste, some spicier, some sweeter and some tangy with an edge of garlic.....the cous cous had a lingering flavor, slightly addictive, the kofte was apparently delicious and gone before there was time to share and my snapper special was an enormous portion of lemon flavored, lightly spiced, crunchily covered fish. the wine list might need some improvement but since it's all just beginning, maybe that wasn't quite finished either.

there is a garden, there are curving sofas and banquettes under hanging lanterns, lovely service and fun music - it's clear that it will be a very popular destination.
