Have you noticed that some restaurants are better on the weekend than during the week? Sometimes I feel that on weekdays, dishes are made in advance and reheated instead of being made fresh.
For instance, I used to get escargots at Le Gaulois. If I went on a Saturday, they would be succulent and tender. Go on a Sunday and they would be chewy and dry. Honey roasted duck at Crystal Thai. Go on a busy Saturday and it is the best duck I've ever had. Go any other day, it tastes rubbery and reheated. Same with Lavandou. Hangar steak on weekend--awesome. Hangar steak on Monday--terrible. I went to Zatinya for the first time on a Tuesday evening. Two of my dishes--mushroom saganaki and cabbage dolmades--tasted reheated. I bet if I came on a Saturday they would have been made fresh.
I decided to post this after reading the Post review of Sette Bello. I went for the first time on a Saturday, everything was great. Went again on a Wednesday night and the fried rice balls were mushy and heavy. My eggplant parmigiana tasted like it had once been frozen.
On the other hand, went to Obelisk for the first time Wednesday evening and everything was freshly made and utterly fantastic.
So, I was wondering if you chows have had similar thoughts or am I imagining things? Thanks.
