and since i am struck once again with the inability to swallow much good food, i should say (since i don't think i've ever seen this discussed) that essex house on coney island avenue between j&k (nearest to j) has very good traditional matzo ball soup (always with a few noodles thrown in. a tad salty but just what the dr. ordered. they also have the traditional array of heart-attack-alluring meat sandwiches (don't get me wrong, i'm eating them all the time!)-- very pricey but kosher deli is these days. for me always: extra lean corned beef on rye with a full-sour pickle and a cream soda and cole slaw on the side. just not today!
