There is a bigger home party planned when some far-flung family members return after Easter. However, it was felt there should be SOME sort of meal to celebrate.
The witness was from the non-hound side of the family whose idea of fine dining runs to Chinese buffets.
"Today, we must go someplace really nice", he said. "Let me take you both to Chevy's"
A quickie divorice briefly crossed my mind. Though I had insisted on keeping things as simple as possible, I was damned to have my wedding lunch at Chevy's.
So a compromise at La Tapatia was reached. It is on the nice side and they had tequila and margaritas.
It is decent enough Mexican food, actually better than I expected.
The margarita is served in a pint sized beer glass and was respectable.
Very good thin chips with three dips ... a nice red salsa, a hot bean dip with cheese melted on top (my favorite) and a hot green salsa.
I would have to say my husband's fajita combo was probably the best option. A sizzling plate of beef, chicken, shrimp, sliced peppers and onions came with a large dish iwth salsa fresca, quacamole (not bad, a little spicy), whole black beans (ok) , Spanish rice and some really good warm tortillas.
I had the chicken mole which was fine though it wasn't very complex. It was nicely sprinkled with sesame seeds.
The witness liked his veggie soup which was covered in melted cheese but said he had better shrimp cocktails. He thought there was something missing but couldn't think what. It was served warm and he usually gets them served cold.
They do have excellent churros though. Nice center, crispy exterior absolutely loaded with outside with a thick, tasty sugar and cinnamon coating. They are probably amoung the best i've tried in the Bay Area.
Of course, my judgement of the meal might have been clouded. I was eating for more than one ... me and the many butterflies that still remained in my stomach. Thought I wouldn't be nervous.
