Mark's Hot Dogs, San Jose

Melanie Wong | Sep 7, 2005 02:51 AM

Yesterday's lunch was a stop at Mark's Hot Dogs, a designated historic landmark in San Jose. The link below has more information about its history and some pictures of the site.

The dog is a blend of pork and beef made to spec by Stephen's Meat Products. They're steamed here, as are the soft buns. A regular dog, $2.50, is dressed simply with yellow mustard, onion, relish, and a couple slices of tomato. The hot dog pops when you bite into it and is nicely spiced. My one quibble is that the onions were sulfurous, and the dog was tepid instead of hot. But it was a kick to sit on an orange bench to eat my lunch next to a Giant Orange again. You can also have car service at this drive-in. Disappointingly, there's no fresh OJ here anymore, so I had a root beer float, $2.50, instead.
