Mariela's Tacos

Eric Eto | Jan 2, 2002 06:24 PM

I was driving down 3rd Street near Vermont when I noticed a placed called Mariela's Tacos, with a sizable line out the door. So despite being a bit full from my Chili John's outing, I decided to go by Mariela's to see if it was just hype. Turns out to be pretty good stuff. I just had a couple of small tacos and some horchata. I noticed that there was a mound of rice on the flat grill in the back of the kitchen -- not sure if that was for the preparation of fresh horchata. Anyway, carne asada seems to be the choice here. There are constantly two people armed with a cleaver chopping up the grilled beef. Everyone else was ordering the big bowl of cocido (soup). Anyone else been there?
