I'll flying into Manchester and from there driving to NW Vermont to come home for holiday break. Any recommendations for a great food stop (preferably east of Montpelier--I'm pretty familiar with western VT offerings, and I'll be hungry before then)? I'm looking for a breakfasty-brunchy-lunchy sort of place, preferably a bakery-cafe or diner emphasizing fresh/local/organic ingredients. I'm open to superlative vegetarian soups/sandwiches (places that bake their own bread get bonus points!), outstanding waffles/pancakes/french toast/granola, amazing pastries, and good coffee and tea. Atmosphere is always nice, but I'd also be happy eating at a nice co-op/natural food store.
Coffee is a must, and I don't drink Starbucks :). What's the best place for local, fresh-roasted, indepently-owned coffee in the Manchester area?
I'll most likely take I89 the whole way, but I'm open to detours if people can recommend something really worthwhile.
