MAJOR deliciousness: PlumpJack Cafe

I went to PlumpJack Cafe (www.plumpjack.com) last night with a party of 6. First of all I had to move my reservation from 9 to 8 with only a couple hours notice. Then we got lost and were late. But the staff were still perfectly gracious. It's a small restaurant, the staff is very nicely dressed, but it still retains a somewhat casual atmosphere. And they'll treat you nicely even if you're dressed in jeans and wearing a beanie (like the patron at the table next to us was).

Our server was patient, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Ahh the wine list. It's one of the few restaurants that claims to sell wine at retail prices. And it's almost 15 pages long.

I tried the cauliflower soup and the duck duet. The soup was interesting, a little creamy and spicy, and unfortunately very filling. As a tip, you can order their soups in cup portions instead of bowl portions (it doesn't say this on the menu). The duck was heavenly; the confit melts in your mouth. My friends also enjoyed their tri-tip and salmon entrees. The surprise star was the palette cleanser; it tasted like it contained some black truffle oil. I didn't have room for dessert, but I'll definitely be going back.

Conclusion: Strongly recommended. I could see it getting very crowded on weekends, so try to stick to odd times.
