Magnolia's game dinners

Ate at Magnolia's in Inman Sq. for the first time in a few years, timed it for the last weekend of the game dinners. I got ostrich and a friend got venison which were great. It's amazing how much like steak ostrich is. Mine came with great onion rings, mashed sweet potato and regular potato, and sauteed zucchini and carrots. The venison had a goat cheese crust and a great sauce of wine and berries. Very nice flavor to it, same sides but no onion rings. Other entrees were shrimp and scallops and a roast pork. One person was too chicken to eat the game but did eat the app. of alligator fritters. Altho this could have been anything in a tasty fried ball w/ a spicy dipping sauce. Fried green tomatos were just okay, not as flavorful as some I've had. We were really in the mood for a cocktail but they only have beer and wine. I chose a beer with ginger in it so it tasted very ginger ale-like but that was what I needed to quench my thirst. There was a Black Voodoo and can't remember the third beer. A bread basket of corn and banana muffins and bisquit type muffins was very good. Service was pretty slow tho, took way too long to give drink orders then dinner orders. Very reasonably priced tho, $108 for four entrees, 2 appetizers, three beers and one rich, sweet pecan pie w/ ice cream.
