Ma Mamas in New Roads

Beau Napateet | Aug 18, 2005 06:50 PM

This restaurant is a real sleeper. Friends have talked to me about the eats in St. Francisville, but right across the river by ferry lies a sleepy Louisiana gem, New Roads, on a beautiful oxbow lake. And it has such wonderful restaurants, "Ma Mama's" is my favorite (not to be confused with "Not Your Mama's" which is right down the road and run by another branch of the same family - more about that one later). It serves absolutely the best Oysters Bienville I can ever remember crossing my palate. You know when they bring out a beautiful salad with lucscious looking homemade croutons that it's going to be good and it was!!! All the seafood was cooked to perfection. The cheesecake was a winner at the end of the meal. The turtle soup was like it used to be at Brennan's. Hounds need to try it, and you are welcome to get back to me if it isn't all I say.
