A few foodnotes from a girls' weekend in Vegas this past weekend:
- 'Wich Craft: Casual sandwich place in MGM Grand. Had a great and unusual veggie sandwich there that included goat cheese, avocado, celery, and maybe watercress -- delicious and light. On a second visit, had a turkey, avocado, bacon and caramelized onion sandwich -- a little dry but still good. Great place for a quick bite... you can also get take-out from there and bring it to the MGM swimming pool right nearby.
- Diego: Upscale Mexican restaurant in the MGM Grand. We were surprised with how much we enjoyed our meal there. The house margarita is excellent -- lots of fresh lime juice and VERY strong! Freshly-fried tortilla chips are served at the table with three wonderful salsas including a nice smoky chipotle one. We shared several appetizers, including the beef taquitos, the ceviche tostadas, and a trio of sopes. The taquitos were a stand-out -- very freshly made, super crunchy, excellent shredded beef inside, surrounded by a nice salsa verde and crema sauce. The restaurant seems to have a lot of weird gimmicks, including $9 guacamole mixed to order at your table, as well as margarita popsicles for dessert (we didn't try either of them). I'd go back.
RA Sushi: Trendy and very very very loud (has a DJ and active bar scene) sushi place at the Fashion Show Mall. Great for good sushi at comparatively reasonable prices. Stick with the sushi -- the other items were mediocre. They seem to have some happy hour specials but I can't remember the times or what's offered.
Bouchon: Much has been written about this here, but suffice it to say that we had a wonderful dinner there. I was especially impressed with the service and the very kind sommelier in particular. We weren't rushed through our meal, which was a nice change. The food highlights were probably the pate appetizer and the cheese plate for dessert. Highly recommended.
