Yesterday marked the first lunch/brunch at Prospect Height's eclectic-Italian restaurant Aliseo (on Vanderbilt).
Have to admit that it's a nice offering and definitely the best place in the 'nabe to grab a Sunday snack (since Tom's is closed).
Anyways, small menu - here's what was on offer (there are no print menus as of yet):
bread and parmagiano
aparagus and parmagiano
mortadella, and one other one...
Red beet with apricot
Pureed string bean
Prosciutto and mozzarella on a croisant
Italian tuna and hard-boiled egg on a baguette
Chocolate croissants, apple twists, chocolate mousse, cherry tart, and apricot tart.
Started with the tri colore salad ($7.5) which was large enough to share. Came with one of the best balsamic vinegars I've ever had - a very fresh, by-the-textbook tri colore.
On to the fritattas ($5.5) - I sampled the bread and parmagiano one and the asparagus and parmagiano ones. Both were very good, although a bit on the small side - though it was served with a side of string beans. Very earthy, eggy flavor - very rich.
For dessert - a chocolate croissant ($2.5) and apple twist ($3.25). Very rich dark chocolate in croissant, nice flavors in the apple twist - though nothing to write home about.
All in all, a great brunch option in the neighborhood.
