Lucky Devils

FINALLY tried this place...there was a flurry of activity on the boards here when it opened, some good, some not so good. I still wanted to try it.

We went at an odd time, around 3:30. Only two tables occupied, but people came and went as our meal progressed. First thing I had to order was the chocolate cake shake. As promised, it was too thick to sip and so rich I could barely finish a third of it. That said, the first bite (yes, a bite of a milkshake!) was totally amazing in that chocoholic way. After that, I didn't enjoy it as much. It was just too rich, but it completely lived up to my expectations.

I ordered the "Kobe" beef burger, unfortunately, Medium Rare was too rare for me. The quality of meat was good enough that it still tasted very good, but I should have ordered it Medium. Not their fault at all! The bun was the thing. A really delicious, squishy bun, yet it didn't fall apart, even when soaked with aioli and meat juices. Quite possibly the perfect bun, even if it's not traditional.

The fries were great. Crispy, yet soft in the centers. Thin cut and long. Sprinkled with a little Kosher salt, I loved these fries!

My dining companion had a turkey burger with blue cheese and he proclaimed it very tasty.

Total for two burgers and one shake incl. tip = $40. Steep? A little! But the quality was there, so it was worth the splurge.

Service was fast, friendly, and efficient, with only one server working up to 6 tables at once.

Lucky Devils is on Hollywood at Cherokee.
