Lowe's Beach Hotel - Sunday Brunch

WLA | Jul 14, 2003 11:29 AM

Took my family for the buffet brunch yesterday for our teenage son's (aka the Weasel Pox) 15th birthday. Lowe's is in Santa Monica on Ocean Blvd. just a block north of Pico and sits on the ocean side with a nice view of the beach. Much cooler weather at the beach yesterday and made for a very pleasant meal with the doors and windows open to the outside.

This is a wonderful brunch. They don't have as large a selection as other places, but what they have is top quality. The carving station had both a beautiful medium rare beef sirloin as well as a medium rare leg of lamb. Their au jus was fantastic with both straight horseradish as well as a horseradish/sour cream mix. They have blini's with two types of caviar, red and black with all of the fixings and an enormous pile of peeled, (tails on) shrimp which are medium sized. They have a very nice sushi selection being made fresh including salmon, hamachi, toro , etc., plus other types of cut rolls like California and others. They have a very nice selection of salads, I found myself drawn back to the mozzarella, tomato and basil with an olive oil/pesto marinade more than once.

They pour a tasty rose champagne, fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee. The dessert station was fantastic. Excellent service, large comfortable chairs with plenty of space between the nine of us. All in all it was perfect, and everyone raved about the food afterwards. They add an automatic gratuity of 18% for this size party, (I'm not sure if it is 7 or more that triggers this but if that is a concern I would suggest that you check with them first). Total out the door was $523, (plus $3 for the validated parking, although their are two hour meters across the street that tend to have spaces when we were there for the 11:30 A.M. start).
