Our favorite dinner during a 6-day chowathon in SF a few wks ago was Merenda ... the food was fabulous, interesting wines by the glass, nice atmosphere, really pleasant service in spite of the place being super popular (this latter is important to me -- I will walk at the first sign of staff snootiness) ... all in all a relaxing evening with wonderful food. Pretty reasonable in cost too, considering the amount of food and wine consumed.
So --- with that in mind, where else should we go for one dinner on an upcoming trip (after we return to Merenda)? Bizou and Alma are out bec. we want to try some place different --- and no "fusion" or Asian-influenced food please. No "important" food experience-type places (Fleur de Lys, Fifth Floor, etc.) either, we're looking for sth more casual.
My mini-perusal of previous posts suggests perhaps Chez Spencer....?
