I saw some email complaints about the format of my last post so I am re-posting, sorry.
Polish rye vodkas have been extremely difficult for me to find except for something like Sobeskie, which I thought was just okay. I don't think I've heard of anyone else making unfiltered vodka, which probably explains the richness and sweet silky easy drink ability of it that I am now in love with. It makes me wonder why more companies don't grow some balls and venture into more characterful vodkas that break the sterotypes, and by that I don't mean by winning me over with just suave marketing. To reiterate, I'm looking for cheaper recommendations based on my liking of Belvedere Intense Unfiltered (or even if they are similar priced if they are worth trying anyway, because I'll always give something new a try). I've always looked out for the other big rye names like Wyborowa and Potocki (do you think I'd enjoy these too based on my preference?) but to no avail. If you can recommend a rich fully charactered vodka based on another grain I'll consider that too (similarly, I've seen a white whiskey and wondered if that had something I'm looking for as well..). I am drinking my vodkas straight out of the freezer, no mixing. So what do you suggest?
Things I've already tried...
Store owner recommended me Ketel One when I asked for something "characterful". It tasted MUSTY. Blech!
Sobeskie. The only Polish Rye vodka I've seen on shelves around here in both maryland and pennsylvania. No one can order me other Polish vodkas because they are not in distribution by the state! What to do... Its not rich but for the price I suppose its okay.
