Louisiana lingo - What is a "toe" of garlic?

Is it a "literal" and if so, would it be a big toe or a little toe - child or adult - man or woman

Is it a "unit"; ie a "clove", and if so, how big

Is it an amt?, ie 1 tea (= 2 sm or 1 med clove - see "unit")

OR

Is it an elusive amt, ie whatever makes you happy?

Of course I'm being silly.... but serious at the same time. When I come across it in a recipe, I just use whatever amount I like - but is there an actual, intended amount hidden in that south La. lingo?
