LOS Introduction

Wow, sometimes I feel sooo lucky living in Las Vegas. Took one of my best friends to Lotus of Siam last night -- her first time, my second.

Bang remembered me from two weeks ago, and even more remarkably, remembered what fellow Chowhound Marc and I had for dinner! We started with the sour sausage and crispy rice, then he suggested that we try the Tom Kah Kai, a spicy chicken soup Northern style (sans coconut milk)...it was sensous and delightful. The steamed bass special this time was in a Thai red sauce...a little spicier than the version we had before in lime juice, but intensely flavorful and still a great compliment to the fish -- not overpowering at all. We also had the tuna tartare which was everything Marc said it was...silken and tender. We also had a Northern version of larb -- no lime juice -- and although Bang said it was a three on the heat scale, it was pretty incendiary!

We also had the pleasure to chat with Bill a bit...he is so accomodating to us chowhounds! He explained that the heat in the larb came from a combination of spices rather than chilis and suggested one of the sweeter Reislings to "help ease the pain." He is totally charming! As is the entire staff!

My friend Alice was bowled over...I now have a fellow LOS lover in town! We talked about making a goal out of working our way through the menu...at 150+ items, should keep us busy for a long, long time!

Oh, and they had mangos last night, which we enjoyed with a sticky rice...divine....
