Correct me if I am wrong, but recently I tried Lombardi's Pizza at Spring St & Mott St. Prior to visiting this Pizza place, I had heard so many good recommendations, reviews, and praises about this place. Finally, with 3 other friends we had a chance to test out this place.
We order four different types of small pizzas, two white crusted, two red crusted. One with sausage and pepperoni, one with mushrooms and peppers, one with tomato, cheese and onion, one with anchovies.
Don't get me wrong, they taste excellent, but to say that is the best Pizza joint in New York is really an overstatement. None of us thought it was that great, it was more than good, it was a joy to have, but it's not enough to make us return to this small joint in Nolita.
The white crust, as good as it claims to be, is a bit too bland and too gooey for our taste. Beside the cheese was too much. I guess if you're a Cheese lover, you'll like this, but the quality of the cheese is obviously not the best in the city either. I really think Totonno Pizza on the Upper East is far more superior than Lombardi's for white crusted Pizzas.
The red crust, was good, but when I was chewing the Pizza, one thing that always comes into my mind, Patsy's and John's Pizzaria, those two places are much much better than this place. I don't understand why New Yorkers love this place so much.
