My wife and I ate at the tasting room of Lola last night, and I can confirm everything that Dave, Donnie, Doc, Nick and Scott have said about the place. It is incredible -- far above anything else I have tried in Dallas, and perhaps one of the best restaurant meals I have ever eaten.
Everything -- from being met at the door by owner Van, who recognized my name from having posted here that I would be dining on Friday; to the attentive, well-informed and unhurried service by Seth and his cohorts; to the SPECTACULAR, inventive food that was as near perfection as anything I have ever eaten -- made it a truly memorable experience. The wine pairings, which were equally inventive (a pinot noir from Santa Lucia, California, for example) and well chosen, enhanced each of the 15 courses. There were five separate wines, eached paired with three of the courses. The wines and food were tranformed by each other in a way that revealed hidden aspects of the food and wine. It was like learning about food and wine all over again.
Needless to say, we will be returning...soon. Needless to say, my hats are off to our fellow Chowhounds for their having discovered Lola. And needless to say, Van and tasting room chef David receive my thanks and admiration!
