i've seen a couple bad posts regarding literati 2 and i find them a little confusing. the "2" has become somewhat of my new haunt for 2 or 3 business lunches a week and i bring my wife just about every weekend for dinner. i can't stay away from the place. these people know service, and obviously, based on what the times food critic wrote, they know food even better.
my experiences only get better. i'm stuck on the salad with chicken for lunch as i try to keep it light for that meal, but have tried many other items such as the caulifour salad, hamburger, and stinging nettle soup. the chef is generous with the portions, but nothing leaves you feeling stuffed. correction, you want to leave stuffed? end with a hunk of the soon-to-be-illegalized carpe diem chocolate cake. it's heavy, creamy, chunky, smooth, rich and absolutely the best chocolate experience i've ever had.
the place itself cries manhattan bistro. whereas some may say noisy, i call it a lively energetic buzz. people are talking laughing and celebrating, oscar peterson is tickling the ivories in the ceiling speakers, crisp wait staff shuffles plates onto tables and the faint clank of pans saute-ing in the kitchen. the flavor of wood-fire wafts through the air, and glasses "tink"ing beautiful wines and libations all over the place.
the bad reviews will happen, but as a regular, take it from me, your experience will be sure to please.
