Two had a nice meal at Din Tai Fung and I was really in the mood for the delicate flavors and greaseless cooking. We arrived at 5:15 PM in a Thursday and were seated right away--when we left at 6:15 there was still a few tables left and the take out orders were starting to pile up. Big contrast to another time couple years ago when we went later and needed to make our selections on a little clipboard out on the sidewalk with a crowd. Still the service is so fast we didn't wait too long. Tea is on the table and the food comes out almost immediately after ordering.
Thanks to whoever on this board once menioned Appetizer ($3), I just loved it. Appetizer is a small, but generous, plate of lightly marinated bean sprouts, shredded tofu (baked?), maybe tree ear, mung bean noodle (some thin clear noodle) and a few slivers of red and green hot chile.
We had an order of the excellent Juicy Pork Dumplings ($6.5), this is the kind with the soup inside the dumpling. 10 pieces was just right for 2. Also a bowl of Shrimp & Pork Wanton soup ($5), served plain, no noodles or vegetables, which was good but not wow. And an order of vegetable of the day, we choose green beans which were simply stirfryed with lots of garlic ($5).
We finished everything except 1/2 order of the beans, which we took to go and were delicious as part of a cold appetizer plate the next day.
