Just tried--Leslieville--Kubo and Pulp Kitchen

JHammy | Feb 2, 2005 01:58 PM

Just tried two places in my 'hood.

The new Kubo on Queen E. Have to say that we were impressed both times. Food was decent. Service was great. The 2nd time we went, they remembered us, which was nice. Its kind of hip and laid back. Busy too. They even take your coat. What a novelty to actually have some service. Had a spicey shrimp dish which had a strange texture. Asked the waiter. Turns out the bokchoy was sandy. They brought us a free (fantastic) dessert. Like it when waiters are so responsive. They have a new sake tasting menu. Tried one of the flights. It was fun. Nice to have place for a laid back friday night cocktail and light dinner.

Pulp Kitchen for brunch this past Sunday. Went because Hello Toast was closed (again). More than pleasantly surprised. Food was fabulous. Juice was great. Had the pancakes. All vegan menu but (thank god) they had (cow-moo-dairy)cream for the coffee. Service was so -so, and we were there before it was really busy (10:15)...but i would definately go back. There were about 6 other thingso on teh menu that I would really like to try.

Went to Barrio twice this month for drinks. Usually like it there, but damn, they have NO HEAT. Can't subject myself to more discomfort if I actually venture out of the house in this weather lately. Fix your heat and I will come back.
