I haven't had proper Thai food since I moved to the Bay Area. Everything I've had in the South Bay has been incredibly disappointing. But, I happened to be at a meeting near the Tenderloin and decided to finally try Lers Ros. What a revelation.
Overall, everything was perfectly spiced. The flavors were crisp and in your face. The dishes I asked to get spicy were appropriately, sweat-inducing spicy, without causing the tongue to lose the ability to discern the other flavors.
Roast duck salad. I've read rave reviews and I love duck. I'm not sure how you're supposed to eat it, but I used the lettuce on the side to create little cups. I've read some reviews that complain about skimping on proteins in certain dishes, but this was perfect.
Garlic frog. Nothing to write home about. I supposed one of the challneges of deep frying frog legs is how you do it without over cooking hte meat, so it was a touch too dry. But I am a sucker for fried garlic and enjoyed the spicy dipping sauce that came with it.
Sliced boar with galangal and something else. I couldn't stop eating this. Meaty slices of boar meat, which is slightly chewier, and each slice was tinged with a sliver of fat and skin, which made for great texture.
I wish I had this place down closer to where I live. Will be making this a regular stop whenever I have meetings in the city.
