Based on some CH reviews I went to Hot Oven Bakery last week and the Chicken Pie was great as were the Cherry and Blueberry Tarts. For not home made or gourmet this is the best pastry crust I have tasted by far.
However, I also tried the Bear Claws and Lemon Danish and found them too doughy and bread like, and the lemon filling in the danish tasted artificial and pasty, which was surprising since the fruit in the tarts tasted so fresh!
I need a couple of lemon pies for a party next week and really won't have the time to bake them from scratch the way I usually do and didn't want to spend a fortune on a work function, so I thought about Hot Oven based on the tarts, but wondered if they use the same fake lemon filling that they do for their danish?
Anyone ever have a lemon pie from Hot Oven and can tell me what the filling is like?
Please don't tell me to go to Wanda's - can't stand her pie crust!
