Recently returned from a trip around the Loire Valley and had dinner on the last night at Le Gambetta in Saumur. This restaurant has just won its' 1st Michelin star and offers an amazing menu for very reasonable prices.
Both my husband and I had the tasting menu which started off with a tray of 3-4 amuse bouches served with our aperitifs. This was followed by the official tasting menu:

Everything was expertly prepared and served and we enjoyed the juxaposition of Asian and French influenced foods - chocolate mousse wrapped up in a won ton dumpling, calamari with a wasabi sauce etc. We ordered the accompanying wines as well and the pours were very generous compared to the paltry 3 oz that I received at Momofuku Ko over in NYC.
We had coffee and tea to finish at which point they brought out a tray of 4 different petit fours/mini desserts. I noticed they offered these to everyone regardless of whether or not coffee/tea was ordered. And this would be my only complaint, there was simply too much food. I wasn't expecting the tray of 4 different amuse bouches to start and also the tray of mini-desserts nor that the courses themselves would be full portions.
So, if you go, make an early dinner reservation, we started at 8pm and didn't finish until 11:45pm, so I would recommend 7pm instead. And eat just a light lunch beforehand and get plenty of exercise so you have room for all the food!
Overall bill came to 85 euros per person - incredible, no?
