Lavandou - cute little Provencal bistro

I live in Philadelphia, but I was in Washington this weekend for a family wedding and met a friend for an early dinner on Sunday before driving back home. We tried a cute little bistro in the Cleveland Park neighborhood called Lavandou on Connecticut Avenue. Very sweet little Provencal bistro with bright printed tablecloths and lots of paintings of Provence on the walls. They had a $15.95 menu before 6:30 PM that consisted of either soup du jour or salad, an entree from a limited selection of asterisked items on the regular menu and coffee or tea. My friend had a very nice steak with eggplant and tomatoes on the side (also available Au Poivre) and I had a lamb stew with artichokes, fennel and carrots that was delicious. My soup was a very tasty silky vegetable puree. Portions were generous. A pretty good deal for the price, we thought. Atmosphere was enhanced by French speaking waiters and the chef occasionally strolling though the dining room. It was certainly not spectacular, but good solid and well prepared Mediterranean comfort food dishes at a very reasonable price. I'd certainly recommend this place as a good find.
