Went to La Videira in Huntington last week, after reading positive reviews in Newsday & the NY Times. They both reported that the food was good and the service and ambiance were nice.
I would agree. These people care. They're friendly.
It's a family operation, and it shows. The food is interesting, with appetizers like Coxhina (chicken dumpling), Kibe (Bulgur & ground beef w/ spices), Bolinho de Mandioca (yucca croquette), and others.
I liked the Bolinho de Bacalhau (crisp codfish croquette). They offer only 4 main entrees & a daily special, but they do them well: fish, pork, chicken, steak. I'm no expert on Brazilian cuisine, in fact, it was my first experience, but I liked it and will go again. I had the Filet de Peixe com Molho de Camarao (crisp flounder filet with Shrimp Sauce). They all come with beans & rice.
I hope they make it, because we need more ethnic cuisine on Long Island. Give them a try.
