La Pupusa Guanaca- Salvadoran food in JP

Alright, after two VERY mediocre meals at Tacos el Charro failed to quench my native Californian taste for latin food, I found my ideal place-- Pupusa Guanaca in JP, right across from Video Underground, half-block from Sorella's, almost kitty-corner to Tacos el Charro.

PG is great if you want take-out, authentic, homecooked, served-on-styrofoam eats. I had the taco plate (four rolled tacos resembling topped with pickled cabbage), and my companion had the Plato Guanaco, which had a portion of nicely spiced chicken, GREAT refried black beans, another taco, and lots of rice. Mine was about 4, hers was 7, and we split one of their special Sunday dessert quesadillas (like a cheesecake cupcake with sesame seeds on top) and their GREAT flan (creamy, dense, wonderful caramelized flavor-- we hypothesized how one could combine the two desserts).

The place is small and really plain, and the kitchen is open so you can see them cooking- nothing fancy, just unpretentious food, a good value and lots and lots of flavor.

I'm going back for the pupusas, which are no doubt even better than our meals. Now I will have to restrain myself from becoming a regular.
