Last night I ate at La Parilla Grill, which translates to 'The Grill Grill.' It is located on the corner of Broadway and Columbus in North Beach. Staff was friendly but the food was bad. Their speciality is chicken, so I ordered 4 pieces with 2 sides - platanos (bananas) and pinto beans. The chicken had nicely burnt skin, but to my disappointment, it was very dry - even the dark meat. I had to douse it in lemon just to be able to eat it. The bananas may have been good when they were originally prepared, which had to be several hours before they were served to me. They were tough, chewy and flavorless. The pinto bean were not the canned variety, but they cooked them in such a way as to leave them with less flavor than if they had used canned beans. I probably will not go back, unless I can convince myself that they will improve with more experience. Maybe their burritos are better.
The realy travesty is that the previous restautant in this location had some wonderful Turkish dishes, but as they called themselves Gyros, nobody ever went there.
I you decide to try this place, you may want to wait a few weeks.
