As a long-time resident of Sunnyside and one who takes great pleasure in the new restaurants of quality that have sprung up here, I was happy to read the recent good commentaries on La Flor. My wife and I visited La Flor very early after it opened and were taken with Viko's abilities and innovation. Viko did most of the cooking in those early months. It took him a while to get his sous-chefs settled, but they seem to be on a good path and the last meals I had there were quite excellent.
I haven't read anything regarding Mina of late on this site and I wonder who has been there recently (I haven't been there for many months) and what the sense is of that place at the moment. I do know that Mina herself is not here, and , according to a man I spoke with there who claims to be her brother and her teacher, she has returned to Bangladesh and will not return for many months (and I wonder if she will ever return!). Although her sister is a competent chef, I never enjoyed my meals there very much when the sister was cooking. They were "OK" and that is the best I would say about them.
So, I'm curious to know recent reactions (especially from Jim who was quite taken with the cooking of Mina and her sister as well.
