We had lunch yesterday at La Croix. We ordered the business 4 course lunch which was wonderful. The roasted pepper tomato soup was excellent, followed by a venison shepard's pie (with carmelized onion and, I think, butternut squash puree on top), foie gras with roasted fruits (banana, pineapple, pear etc), and a slow cooked white-fish. The food was wonderful, except perhaps the fish which was tasty but not outstanding. The four course lunch is a nice treat because we got to try things I never would have ordered otherwise. The foie gras was simply stunning.
I seem to recall people complaining of poor service at La Croix (for an anniversary dinner no less). We had the problem of the non-existent waitress. Wine, water and bread were brought promptly and our order taken. Then, the wait.....After 40 minutes my husband got up to go searching for our waitress, but she was not to be found. He did see the chef who was simply shaking hands and being a lovely host, little did he know when he reached out to shake my husband's hand that he would find such a frustrated customer. A few managers later our soup finally arrived.
The manager came to apologize at our table and after our meal the waitress let us know the lunch was on them. Yes, they handled the situation well and did the right thing. I am curious how much of a problem this has been for those of you who get to enjoy the food at this restaurant more regularly. I suspect we will return, but if I am going to spend $90-100 for lunch I hate to even think for a moment that service might be a problem.
