LA CABANITA - short review

After reading about (the mostly) positive reviews of La Cabanita, decided to hop over the hills to Glendale/Montrose and give it a try.

Mexican chicken soup was good (even when the thermometer is pushing 90s). Good sized chunks of chicken, evenly spiced (w/cumin maybe?) broth with smattering of veggies, corn and rice on the side, and fluffly homemade tortillas. Very good and filling.

The carne asada was very well spiced and tender, strong hints of lime and citrus in the marinade.

The chicken and cheese moles were a bit on the sweet side; ok, but not great.

The soft tacos with chicken, walnuts and raisin (lunch special) was very interesting. Again, very sweet like the mole, but the walnuts/raisin gave the tacos a nice earthy balance.

Service was s-l-o-w, but attentive.

(And, lastly, for you morning TV news hounds, spotted Kathy Vara, the morning news anchor for Channel 7)

Chow away ....
