La Botte-review

La Botte just opened at 620 Santa Monica Blvd. in Santa Monica. They are still undiscovered so I suggest you go quickly. Once discovered, you will not be able to get in. They are owned by the people that also own Picollo. The house wine is a top quality Cab. made for Picollo at a real bargain at $10.00 a glass. It must be pointed out that La Botte means Wine Barrel so all of the wood in the restaurant is from old wine barrels. The decor is very elegant. The staff is the most hospitable, knowledgable, helpful and professional that I have ever experienced.

The Asparagus with Fontina and Mushroom sauce is very good. Pigeon Breast with Leg Confit is stratospheric. For Pasta a Pumpkin Ravioli with addition of dried fruit and Amaretti cookies topped a dusting of very aged Parm. Regg.was perfectly executed, wife loved it. Entree of Elk Chop cooked perfectly with side of Crispy Sauteed Polenta Cake (made with a very large grain Polenta). Even better than Saddle Peak Lodge, and I didn't think that was possible. Dessert was a Ricotta Cheese Cake with Orange Zest (and also made with some of that large grain Polenta). Very rich, very good and almost certainly unlike anything you have ever had before. All of this wonderfulness does come at a price (albeit a bargain for what you get). Bill was about $120.00 for both of us before generous tip. We have already made our reservations for our next visit. Don't miss the boat on this one. You are now officially warned.
