EAT Food Village at Publika Shopping Gallery is one of only two mall-based food courts in mainly-Muslim Malaysia were pork is served, mainly to cater to the local Chinese populace which makes up 25% of the country's population. The Chinese are mainly Buddhists-Taoists, or Christians, and loved their pork. Publika Shopping Gallery is also located in the upmarket Mont Kiara suburb very popular with KL's expatriate Japanese & Korean population, which explained why pork was offered in this food court.
BM Yam Rice purportedly hails from Bukit Mertajam, a town from the Northern Malaysian state of Penang. It's a Hakka-Chinese dish. What I had:
- Yam rice: the rice was tinged brown with dark soysauce, and flavoured with cubes of pre-steamed yam and dried shrimps and pork lard;
- Chicken cooked in wine, with ginger strips and crunchy black fungus. The flavour of the Chinese Shaoxing wine was strong and sweetish. Delish!
- Hard-boiled egg and tofu puff stewed in soysauce.
- Pork, pig's innards and pig's blood soup with salted vegetables - I simply *love* this soup, especially the pig's blood in it.
