OK, we tried this place Sunday night. Thanks to Penelope, we knew to go more with the Thai stuff than the Japanese. Not having overly high expectations, we decided that it's a fine neighborhood place. We were happy with what we tried.
We started with a shared dragon roll - an 8 piece eel roll topped with avocado to look like scales. This we liked very much. We tried assorted dumplings--they were just OK--and grilled duck, which we really enjoyed.
Mains were boneless duck, which looked lackluster, but its orderer liked it (I didn't taste it), pad thai (good) and a bbq pork box, but they ran out of pork and substituted pork chop (also good).
Owner came and chatted. They're Thai, but she decided to add some Japanese. She was quite chatty, actually-- they'd only been open 4 days and already had repeat customers; they ran out of some food; they own 3 other places--one on MacDougal, one on Houston, I don't remember the other.
Service was really good-- pleasant and attentive without being invasive.
Overall, I wouldn't go there expecting an incredible meal, but it's a good neighborhood place I'll go to again.
