last night 8 friends and i arrived at the appointed time at king fung garden for our pre-ordered peking duck night only to find that......they had given our table away to another group that they had just seated. first they tried the old "10 minutes..." gambit, but as it was obvious this group had just sat down that was more or less an outright lie. the chef came out to apologize and compounded the problem by unprofessionally blaming his young waitress for the mistake. (it was likely her fault, but for him to say so instead of just taking responsibility was pretty lame).
given this incompetent bungling, we decided to light out for peach farm and let king fung keep their ducks to do whatever they wanted with them and headed over to peach farm. an excellent feast followed there, with plenty of fried squid/shrimp with heads/pork, some delicious pea pod stems, a great squid with mustard greens dish, pork in spicy sauce, some sort of pork dish whose name i don't remember and more. over my protestations that sticking to seafood was the best bet and that a non-preordered peking duck was unlikely to be the very thing my compadres ordered one up anyway. the two courses were fair, i guess, but not really all that great.
in any case, the nine of us had a nice two hundred dollar feed in peach farm, cash that king fung could have had for themselves if only they had some clue what they were doing. i'd have to say i'm pretty disappointed in the way this restaurant performed last night and i don't know if i'll ever try going their for their (excellent in the past) peking duck.
