I was surprised to see Kin Shop on Blackboard Eats for lunch. My wife got the code and we decided to go Saturday for lunch as the deal was about to expire. We really enjoyed our dinner there a few weeks ago and it seemed like a great lunch spot for a nice Saturday afternoon.
When we arrived, we were seated and then told to save the certificate for another time as we weren't able to use it on a prix-fixe menu ($50). No problem, we intended to order off the regular menu. 'We aren't offering that today because Harold is actually in the kitchen cooking so we have only the special menu.'
I don't mind spending $100 for lunch for the two of us for lunch but I probably wouldn't choose to do it at Kin Shop. Also, I am not one who cares at all whether a celebrity chef is in the kitchen as I assume they usually are not with only s few exceptions. It's fun to spot Jean Georges or Batali but I don't expect them to be making my dishes most nights. But other than pre-announced special dinners or events, I know of few other restaurants who change their menu simply because the chef/owner is in the kitchen. It seemed strange to me a a bit annoying.
On an unrelated note, we had an amazing dinner at the bar at Otto. So fun. That place really has some amazing wine selections by the quartino and the octopus and celery antipasto was stellar.
