Restaurants & Bars 6

Kew Gardens Thai.

Having just completed jury duty at the Queens Borough Hall in Kew Gardens, I had occasion to eat in a Thai restaurant close by. Since the demise of The Pastrami King some years ago, there has been some effort to replace that loss with some decent restaurants. Neveretheless, that particular areas seems strangely devoid of good eating establishments.

So, it was with curiosity that I went into SIMPLY THAI, a pleasant, smallish restaurant at 118-16 Queens Blvd. (right off Union Turnpike). I had one of their lunch dishes -- a vegetable soup and their Pad Thai with chicken for $5.50. The lunch special also comes with an egg roll (quite greasy) and a complimentary glass of wine or soda.

The food was decent if not exciting. Has anyone tried this restaurant and in particular their regular dishes other than the lunch special? I wonder if their main entrees might be better.

My favorite Thai restaurant still remains the Thai Cafe in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. My wife and I were regulars at Ubols when they were on Broadway in Queens before their move to Steinway Street. The food was terrific then and we bemoan its decline since moving to Steinway Street.

Since many Queens residents will be in the Kew Gardens area for future jury duty, does anyone know of good restaurants nearby the court house? Walking around, I came upon a Japanese restaurant, and outside of the usual coffee houses, pizza places, etc. there didn't seem too much else.
