In a few weeks I am taking my parents to a concert at Disney Hall. I was totally excited and out of my mind about treating them to a great dinner at Patina as a prelude to a memorable evening.
But when I called to make a reservation, they told me the entire evening/night for that specific date was closed to the public for some private banquet thingy. The woman suggested I try Kendall's Brasserie down the street at the Music Center.
After some bewildered pondering I gave in and made a reservation with Kendall's, in spite of the fact that it's not as fancy as Patina (I want to wow my parents), not as generally well-received, and serves what appears to be a slightly more limited type of cuisine, however nice it may be. (I looked at its menu online.)
I've searched the internet high and low for personal reviews of Kendall's but have found only two not-so-great brief blurbs from readers at latimes.com, in addition to general descriptions (not opinions) on tour-guide-esque websites.
I'm writing to ask anybody out there to tell me what I have to look forward to. I'm not really considering other options at this point because I want the restaurant to be 1. fancy, and 2. within quick walking distance to Disney Hall. It appears Kendall's is the only one outside of Patina that fits the bill.
So all I want is to be reassured that it isn't simply "the runner up" restaurant you go to only when Patina's fully booked -- even if it really is. Heh. If there is anything hideous about it, please tell me, but otherwise, what can my parents and I look forward to at Kendall's?
Thank you for reading this far; I love you chowhounds, every last one of you!
